Getting started
You'll save your first bookmark and ask your library a question in 5 minutes.
1. Sign in
Head to the sign-in page and enter your email. We'll send a magic link — no password required. The link logs you in instantly and keeps you signed in for 30 days.
2. Save your first bookmark
You have three ways to save:
From the web app
Click + New in the top nav. Paste a URL, optionally add a title, notes, and comma-separated tags. Hit save.
From the bookmarklet
Go to Settings, find the Bookmarkletsection, and drag the indigo button to your browser's bookmarks bar. Now you can save any page with one click.
From the Chrome extension
Install the extension (see the Chrome extension docs), then click the icon while browsing. The popup pre-fills the URL and title.
3. Watch it get enriched
Right after you save, Batata starts working in the background:
- Archives the page's full text (works on HTML and PDFs)
- Generates a 2-sentence AI summary
- Suggests 3-5 tags based on the content
- Embeds the content into a searchable vector index
Refresh the home page after 5-10 seconds and you'll see the summary, new tags, and a cached link to read the archived text.
4. Search by meaning
Type a natural-language query into the search bar — you don't need to remember the exact words. Try queries like:
- “That article about negotiation”
- “Posts about building startups”
- “Cooking techniques”
Toggle between hybrid (default), keyword, and semantic modes to see how results differ. Hybrid usually wins.
5. Ask your library
Click Askin the top nav. Type a question about what you've saved. Batata retrieves the most relevant bookmarks, sends them to an LLM, and returns a grounded answer with citations linking back to the specific pages.
Example questions:
- “What have I saved about productivity?”
- “Summarize my articles on negotiation”
- “What do my bookmarks say about software architecture?”
6. Upgrade when you hit 100
Free tier caps at 100 bookmarks. When you hit it, you'll see a friendly upgrade screen pointing to Pricing. Pro is $36/year for unlimited bookmarks; everything else stays the same.
